The meteors are part of the annual Geminid meteor shower. The Geminids are a meteor shower that occurs annually in December. It is caused by debris from an object named 3200 Phaethon, thought to be an extinct comet. Visible in the night sky is Jupiter (far left), Sirius (centre), Orion (upper centre), and the faint band of the Milky Way (vertically above the photographer). The mountains are those around Mount Balang (5040 metres) in Sichuan, China, on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Photographed on 14 December 2014.
