Mars Express perspective view looking North for 600 kilometres over the central part of the Valles Marineris region of Mars. The Valles Marineris canyon system is over 4000 kilometres long. This area is about 300 kilometres wide. The canyons are Ophir Chasma (across top, pale colour), Candor Chasma (across upper centre, dark) and Melas Chasma (also dark, across lower centre). Each canyon is about 200 kilometres wide and between 5 and 7 kilometres deep. Data obtained in 2004 from the High Resolution Stereo Camera.
