Ganymede. Image of Ganymede, the largest of Jupiter's moons, taken from a distance of 2.6 million kilometres. Ganymede has a diameter of some 5262 kilometres. Its surface shows evidence of intense meteoric bombardment, just like its neighbouring moon Callisto. Some areas, however, show evidence of resurfacing afterwards, not a feature seen on Callisto. This image was made by Voyager 1 on 4 March 1979.
