Suction fans are used to ensure that solid and fluid waste are collected efficiently, either in the bowl (centre) or in the urinal (fixture on pipe). Foot restraints and hand-holds are also provided. The waste is collected in a disposable container where it is dried and compacted to minimise storage volume. Hands may be washed in the device at top. The compartment is fitted with a sliding door to ensure privacy. Freedom is scheduled for completion and permanent occupation by mid-1999.
