: Power from poultry litter. A technician overlooks fuel hoppers at the Fibropower plant at Eye in Suffolk, England. The fuel is poultry litter - a dried mixture of woodshavings, straw and chicken droppings - purchased from local poultry farms. To prevent odours escaping, the fuel hall is kept at a slight negative pressure relative to the atmosphere. The workers wear positive pressure breathing apparatus, to prevent inhaling the dusty, ammonia- laden air of the hall. The fuel is used to generate a net 12.5 megawatts of electricity, and ash from the furnaces is recycled as a nitrate- free fertiliser. MODEL RELEASED
