. Fuzzy CAT robot and researcher. This robot is capable of learning how to navigate its environment. On its turret it has an infrared sensor (top right) and sonar sensors (upper right). It learns using a combination of two techniques: evolutionary learning, in which a number of different rules are tried and the most successful is selected; and fuzzy logic, a form of reasoning where the truth of a statement is a matter of degree, rather than being either true or false as in conventional logic. Fuzzy CAT was built by researchers at the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy, headed by Professor Andrea Bonarini. Alfonso Perez is pictured modifying the robot. MODEL RELEASED
