Cancer protein. Computer model of the enzyme protein tyrosine kinase, which is involved in cancer cell formation. This is a subject of study by the cancer research screen saver. This is a piece of software which can be downloaded free from the internet. It tests millions of small molecules to see if they bind to target proteins such as this. If such a molecule is found, the details are sent back to the researchers using the internet. By harnessing the power of thousands of computers, researchers hope to uncover hundreds of drugs with anti-cancer potential. The project has been developed jointly by Oxford University, England, and the USA-based company United Devices.
