The louse, like all adult insects, is divided into head, thorax & abdomen; the seven segments of the latter are visible here. The three pairs of legs terminate in a claw for gripping. The wings have been lost during the course of evolution. Infestations of lice causes pediculosis, an intense itching which may result in bacterial infection. Magnification: X30 at 35mm size.
