Cluster-fly. Macrophotograph of a cluster-fly, Pollenia rudis, feeding on the nectar of a white daisy flower. A bead of nectar can seen hanging from the fly's proboscis (centre left). In the process of this feeding, pollen is brushed onto the body of the fly and it acts as a pollinator, transporting pollen to flowers of the same species. A large compound eye can be seen on the head of the fly. Cluster flies can be identified by the golden hairs on the base of the wings. Cluster flies enter houses in autumn to seek out winter quarters. It is usually a domestic pest, and may transmit diseases to humans.
