The eggs are hatched on a growth medium to produce sterile maggots. These are used to clean wounds. They secrete enzymes which only break down dead and damaged tissue, leaving healthy areas alone. Their secretions also reduce the risk of the wound becoming infected by bacteria. The maggots clean wounds far more efficiently than is possible with drugs or other methods. They are used for cleaning necrotic or infected wounds such as burns, pressure sores, leg ulcers and abscesses. MODEL RELEASED
