Flies dosed with drugs (from left to right: marijuana, benzedrine, caffeine and chloral hydrate) were fed to garden spiders and their web construction monitored. Normal orb webs consists of radiating non-sticky thread and a sticky, spiral elastic hub (see Z430/524). Spiders affected by the stimulants benzedrine and caffeine produce erratic, misshapen webs, whereas spiders fed the marijuana and the sedative chloral hydrate failed to complete their webs.
