'A Dug-Out in What Was Once A Sylvan Wood', (1919). Scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: 'The desolation and havoc wrought on the face of the country by modern guns baffles description. Where words fail, the camera can to some extent record a part at least of the utter destruction of all the outward aspects of rural and sylvan beauty.
