k 1972 Munich Olympics, Swimming, Womens 100m Butterfly Final Mayumi Aoki Yamada SC of Japan won the gold medal in the womens 100meter butterfly final at the Munich Olympics on September 1, 1972, setting a new world record 1 minute, 3.34 seconds by defeating a strong American swimmer in the final one meter. This was a great achievement for the womens swimming team in Berlin. This was the first gold medal for the womens swimming team in 36 years, since Maehata in Berlin. Noriko Asano Juku Juku Juku Shachishachi finished in eighth place.
