Taiheiji. The Koureki monument was erected to commemorate the victims of the great tsunami. In the 16th year of Shohei (1361), during the period of upheaval in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, a large earthquake and tsunami hit western Japan. Local histories from the Edo period record that the monument was erected in Koryaku 2, 19 years after the earthquake, as a memorial to the victims of the Shohei tsunami. It is said that about 70 names were listed on the monument. It is said to be the oldest tsunami monument in Japan and is called the "Koryaku no Monument. "Photo taken on September 25, 2019.
