Assyrian Bireme warship bas relief.
Assyrian Bireme warship bas relief from about 700-692 BC from Nineveh. Probably a Phoenician-built ship of the type deployed by Sennacherib. It features two rows of oars and a pointed ram bow designed to hole enemy ships below the waterline. Circular shields on the upper deck protect soldiers from enemy arrows. This relief is a 3D recreation based on the exhibit in the British Museum.
