Global ship tracking system microsatellite in Earth orbit, illustration. This is the ESAIL microsatellite, developed by ESA and Luxspace for the SAT-AIS (satellite automatic identification) programme. This programme provides global ship tracking. Space agencies partnering with and using commercial off-the-shelf equipment and microsatellites, enables space-based services to provide global tracking, reducing pollution, and promoting the monitoring of dangerous cargo. The ESAIL microsatellite is scheduled for launch in 2019.
