160308-0025 - Tokyo Station
The early post-war Tokyo Station, located in the Marunouchi business district of Tokyo, in the late 1940s.
This photo shows the station without the third floor and the domes, which were destroyed during the firebombings of 1945 (Showa 20).
The building was designed by architect Kingo Tatsuno (1854-1919) to celebrate Japan's victory in the Russo-Japanese War. He patterned the station's famed domes after Amsterdam's central station.
In 1921 (Taisho 10), Prime Minister Takashi Hara was assassinated here.
