Ichiyo Higuchi (unknown date)
Undated - Ichiyo Higuchi (1872-1896) is the Japanese author in Meiji era. In 1894 her first major work, Otsugomori(The New Year's Eve) was published, and in the following year, Takekurabe, Nigorie(Troubled Waters), Jusanya(The Thirteenth Night) were published to critical and popular success. But her literary career was cut short in 1896, when she contracted, and soon died of, tuberculosis. (Photo by Kingendai Photo Library/AFLO)
