THE NAPOLETAN REVOLUTION OF 1647
HISTORY OF ITALY The Neapolitan revolt of 1647. Tommaso Aniello (29 June 1620 -16 July 1647) led the riots that broke out in Naples on 7 July due to the new fruit gabelle. His battle cry "Long live Spain and bad blackmail" fully expresses loyalty to the king of Spain and contempt for the viceroy, forced to find shelter first in the convent, then in castel Sant'Elmo and finally in Castelnuovo.
