Onagawa Daiichi Junior High School Students Share their Experiences
Press Conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan
July 7, 2011, Tokyo, Japan - Students representing Onagawa No. 1 Junior High School of Miyagi Prefecture share their experience as disaster survivors as they meet foreign journalists at the foreign press club in Tokyo on Thursday, July 7, 2011.
On March 11, the students from northeastern Japanese sea port of Onagawa perched on a high hill, watching in terror as the tsunami swallowed up their town following the magnitude 9.0 earthquake. The students' loss has been overwhelming. Five were orphaned after losing both parents. Thirty-four students lost one parent and many lost siblings, relatives and friends. The students traveled all the way to Tokyo with their teachers to show their gratitude for help, much from abroad. (Photo by Natsuki Sakai/AFLO) [3615] -mis-
