New Collision Avoidance Technology Unveiled
Toyota's Higashi-Fuji Research Center
July 21, 2011, Susonosi, Japan - Toyota technicians checks a badly damaged Crown after a head-on collision with a Toyota VITZ at a speed of 55km/h (about 34 miles/h) in a demonstration at Toyota's Higashi-Fuji Technical Center on the foot of Mt. Tokyo, on Thursday, July 21, 2011.
Toyota showed to reporters technologies aimed at increasing safety for pedestrians and elderly drivers, as part of its initiatives to eliminate traffic casualties. The technologies include a Pre-Collision System with collision-avoidance assist, glare-preventing adaptive driving beams and a pop-up In the PCS, Toyota uses cameras and a super sensitive radar called "millimeter-wave," both installed in the front of the vehicle, to detect possible crashes. Then the vehicle calculates how braking and steering must be applied to avoid a crash. (Photo by Natsuki Sakai/AFLO) [3615] -mis-
