Zinc II chloride on a watch glass. Zinc II chloride anhydrous; ZnCl2; Molar mass 136.315 g/mol. Also known as Zinc dichloride, Butter of zinc Zinc chloride is a highly soluble chemical compound. It is hygroscopic and deliquescent, eventually dissolving in water drawn from the air. It is widely used in textileprocessing, chemical synthesis and metallurgical fluxes as well as a smoke grenade mixture known as HC and, because it fluoresces, as a solution for detecting fingerprints. A concentrated solution can dissolvestarch, silk, andcellulose and can convert paper into a vulcanized fibre.
