The airport, located along the Pacific coast, was flooded by a 10-meter tsunami following a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 that jolted northeastern Japanese cities on March 11. Japan marks sixth months anniversary on September 11 of an earthquake and tsunami that have ravaged 130 kilometers along the Pacific coast in the country's northeastern region, leaving nearly 20,000 dead or missing. Six months after the nation's worst ever disaster. which also sparked a nuclear crisis, still more than 20,000 people are forced to dwell in temporary shelters and housings throughout the area.
