The small circle at centre represents the beam pipe in which an electron a positron, accelerated in DESYs PETRA collider, have met annihilated at the centre. Their energy rematerialises as a number of particles, including a bottom quark which immediately combines with an antiquark to form a B meson. The meson lives much too briefly to be visible, but careful analysis shows its presence.
