Orchid flowers
Orchid flowers (Corallorrhiza trifida). Cluster of small flowers produced by this saprophytic orchid. This orchid is unusual in that it does not have leaves, relying on fungi to aid the absorption of nutrients from the soil. As it grows on the ground, it is also a terrestrial orchid. It is found in cold and temperate regions of Asia, Europe and North America, growing in bogs and swamps. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide. Photographed in Ribblehead, England.
