Emerging ox-eye daisy flower
Emerging daisy flower head (2nd of 5 images). Close-up of the flower head of the ox-eye daisy, Leucanthemum vulgare (or Chrysanthemum leucanthemum), emerging from the bud. The bud contains many tiny flowers called florets enclosed inside protective bracts (green). Here the sterile white ray florets can be seen. The ox-eye daisy is a medium sized perennial plant which grows in grassy places and flowers between May and September. See photos B539/025-029 for the sequence of flower opening.
