Belsay gardens
Belsay gardens. Aerial photograph of rhododendron flowers and conifers in the quarry garden of Belsay Hall. The garden is situated in the quarry where stone was taken to build the hall, which was completed in 1807. Sir Charles Monck designed both the hall and gardens. The quarry garden is characterised by a series of steep ravines, corridors and pinnacles. It contains a vast collection of exotic plants including rhododendrons and magnolias. The hall was built in the Greek Revival Style, inspired by the temple of Theseus in Athens. Photographed in Northumberland, UK.
