Cell organelles, SEM
Cell organelles, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Mitochondria, which produce the cell's energy, are red. Golgi apparatus, a membrane-bound organelle that modifies and packages proteins, is blue. Also seen is some endoplasmic reticulum (ER, yellow, lower left), a membrane bound organelle that is the site of lipid synthesis and the production of membrane-bound proteins. These organelles are within the cell's cytoplasm (green).
