Pandanus palm (Pandanus tectorius)
Pandanus palm (Pandanus tectorius). The pandanus, also known as the screwpine, can grow to 8 metres tall. Its long pointed leaves can reach up to 2 metres in length. It is an economically important plant, its leaves are woven or plaited into mats, sails and thatch. The palms roots are eaten and used as medicine, and its fruit is a major source of food to communities on atolls.
