Etruscan settlement of Spina, artwork
Etruscan settlement of Spina, artwork. This settlement was an important port on the Adriatic in northern Italy, at the mouth of the River Po. The city was discovered many kilometres inland in 1922, as the coastline had moved outwards over the centuries due to sedimentation of the river delta. The Etruscan culture dates from around 1200 BC, and was eventually assimilated into the Roman civilisation.
