Couple kissing, thermogram
Couple kissing, thermogram. A thermogram shows the variation in temperature on the surface of an object, measured by the long-wave infrared radiation it emits. The temperature scale is colour-coded and here runs from purple (coldest), through blue, green, yellow and orange to red (warmest). Kissing stimulates blood flow in the capillaries of the lips, making them swell, and in the rest of the face as well, leading to the increase in temperature (red areas) seen here. This increased blood flow activates the sensory nerves and raises the pleasure felt during kissing.
