Giraffes being translocated
Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) being translocated. Image 3 of 6. Helicopter herding giraffes towards a walled pen, ready to be moved to another habitat. Giraffes are the tallest living land animals and grow to a height of 5.5 metres and to over a tonne in body weight. They feed mainly on the twigs and leaves of trees. When giraffes begin to overpopulate their habitat, they are transported by truck to a new area where resources are more plentiful. Photographed in Isiolo, Kenya. For a series showing the giraffe translocation process, see images C001/8104 to C001/8111.
