Historical coal mine. Ex-miner turned tour-guide posing in a recreated tunnel at the Bois du Cazier coal mine. This mine was founded in 1822. On 8th August 1956 a fire killed 262 of the 275 miners in the mine at the time. The whole colliery has recently been renovated as part of a Belgian initiative to preserve their industrial heritage. Today this former colliery, is a major cultural site and tourist destination in the Charleroi region. Photographed at the Bois du Cazier colliery, Marcinelle, Belgium.
