Chimpanzee reintroduction, Congo
Chimpanzee reintroduction. Truck carrying a chimpanzee from the HELP-Congo sanctuary. This chimpanzee is being taken to be released back into the wild. The HELP sanctuary was founded in 1990. It protects and cares for chimpanzees orphaned through illegal poaching and trafficking in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The centre was the first of its kind in the DRC and the first to show that chimpanzees could be reintroduced to the wild. The chimpanzees will be released in the Conkouati-Douli National Park. Photographed in Pointe-Noire, Congo, in 2003.
