Dog's nose, MRI model
Dog's nose, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) model. Detailed MRI scans have allowed the reconstruction of a sagittal slice through the complicated airways inside a dog's nose, for the study of olfaction (the sense of smell). Shown here is the naris (nostril), the respiratory turbinates (pink), and the olfactory epithelium (brown). It is in the olfactory epithelium that smells are actually sensed.
