Tuvalu, satellite image. North is at top. Water is blue, vegetation is green, and shallow sand banks and coral atolls are light blue and white. Tuvalu is located in the Pacific Ocean, within the region known as Polynesia. It is a grouping of four reef islands and five coral atolls. It is one of the smallest countries in the world, both by population and land area. The islands are low-lying and threatened by sea level rises due to climate change.
