Cornerstone of former Bank of Korea, Oct 14, 2020 : Chinese characters meaning a cornerstone are seen at the currency museum of the Bank of Korea in Seoul, South Korea. The currency museum at South Korean central bank's headquarters had been main office building of the Bank of Joseon or the Bank of Chosen, which was the central bank of Colonial Korea (1910-1945) and of South Korea. Korea was colonized by Japan from 1910-45. According to local media, a lawmaker of South Korea's ruling Democratic Party, Jeon Yong-Gi insisted on October 12, 2020 that the Chinese characters for the cornerstone of the former central bank had been written by Hirobumi Ito (1841-1909), four-time prime minister of Japan and the first resident governor of then Japanese-occupied Korea. The Cultural Heritage Administration of South Korea will look into the cornerstone with historical records and decide between keeping it as it is with a notice and removing it from the building, local media reported.
