Eurasian pygmy shrew (Sorex minutus), artwork. This small mammal is widespread throughout northern Eurasia. It reaches a body length of just over 5 centimetres, and a weight of only 4 grams. It has a high metabolic rate, and needs to eat every couple of hours. It lives in woodland undergrowth and leaf litter, feeding on small insects and invertebrates.
