Lady of Cao, artwork
Lady of Cao. Artwork of the Lady of Cao (centre), a Moche female mummy found near Trujillo, Peru. The diagram at left shows where the funeral bundle was found and the objects placed around it, including a sacrificed teenage girl. At right are the objects found in the funeral bundle, which, unusually for a woman, included weapons. The mummy also had complex tattoos of animals on her body. The Moche were a pre-Inca civilisation that lived along Peru's north coast between 100 and 700 AD. The mummy has been dated to 450 AD.
