Triceratops was a Ceratopsid, a large four-legged plant-eating dinosaur characterized by a beak, rows of shearing teeth in the back of the jaw, and elaborate horns and frills. This species lived during the late Maastrichtian stage (around 68-65 million years ago) of the Late Cretaceous Period (around 99-65 million years ago) in what is now North America.
