Neolithic standing stone
Neolithic standing stone. This stone is part of Avebury henge, a Neolithic monument in Avebury, Wiltshire, UK, that dates from around 5000 years ago. The monument contains the largest stone circle in Europe, and is one of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain. It consists of three stone circles and earthworks, known as dykes, situated in a large ditch. Many of the original stones were destroyed so the land could be used for building and agricultural purposes from the early 14th Century onwards.
