Harajuku Culture
(Taken June 1980)
Women with various hairstyles walking in Harajuku (circa June 1980): Tokyo leads Japan's youth fashion. Harajuku is the most cutting-edge area in Tokyo. Young people gather from everywhere and create new clothes and customs one after another. Young women in Harajuku have a wide variety of hairstyles, from short to long, Japanese, Western, African, and so on. In addition, their hair is colorfully dyed gold, pink, green, gray, etc. It is also common to see frizzy hair. Some of the hairstyles are of unknown nationality. I was worried about their hair, which is a woman's life, but they said to me, "It's old, it's old. A hat, instead of a hat. Or a wig. They replied in a matter-of-fact manner.
