Stars and Stripes fashion on the streets of Tokyo (September 1987): Stars and Stripes and Union Jack are prominently displayed on jumpers and bags. "Twenty years ago, the attitude toward the flag was very strict. It was hard to get wet in the rain. Now it's okay as long as it's not used in an insulting way," said a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy. "Legally, it's a bit of a problem. Some Americans might think it's nasty," said the American lawyer, showing some persistence.
