Geothermal fumerole
Geothermal fumerole. Mud formations in a fumerole area with solfataras. These are fumeroles that emit sulphurous gases, leaving deposits of sulphur (yellow). Geothermal areas are where volcanic activity drives hot water and steam to the surface. Photographed at the Krafla volcanic caldera in northern Iceland.
