Frog skin glands. Light micrograph of a section through the skin of a frog, showing secretory glands (round, one at centre right) just below the surface (across top). The function of these glands is to secrete mucus and water onto the frog's skin. The secretory cells form an arc (dark pink dots) on the lining of the gland, with the duct leading to the skin at top. Some frog's have glands that can secrete poison. This sample has been prepared with haematoxylin eosin staining. Magnification: x100 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
