Carbon footprint label
Carbon footprint label. Label on a food product showing its carbon footprint. This is an indication of the impact the production, distribution, consumption and disposal of the food and its packaging have on the environment through the release of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. These gases contribute to global warming. This labelling scheme is operated and certified by the Carbon Trust, a company established in England and Wales in 2001 to help companies and governments reduce their carbon footprints.
