Carthaginian Iberia. Battle of Helike (228 B.C.). The Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca(275-228 B.C.) and his army of Numidians and mercenaries, led an expedition to Iberia in 236 B.C. In eight years he secured an extensive territory in Hispania but the Celtiberians, assisted by Orissus, chieftain of the Oretani tribe, defeated to the Carthaginian troops of Hamilcar and he died in the battle.
