Lockheed U-2 spy aircraft hanger. Maintenance personnel and pilot about to prepare the cockpit of a U-2 'Dragon Lady' spy aircraft. Dozens are needed to prepare this aircraft for each mission. It was developed by the Lockheed Corporation and made its maiden flight in August 1955. Since then, it has been used by the CIA and the US Air Force for high-altitude reconnaissance missions (altitudes of 21 kilometres). Over 80 U-2 aircraft have been built over more than 50 years.
