Roman funeral procession, artwork
Roman funeral procession. Artwork of Romans preparing for a burial ceremony. The dead man's family and professional mourners carry offerings for the gods. The man at right is playing a double-reed instrument called the aulos or tibia. The Romans did not bury their dead in their cities, but interred the remains outside the city boundaries. The civilisation of Ancient Rome lasted for over 1200 years.
