Gully formations on Mars
Gully formations on Mars. Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image of gullies on the side of a martian impact crater. Gullies are narrow channels formed by the downward flow of sediment deposits on steep slopes. The absence of impacts suggests the gullies were formed relatively recently and indicate that water was present on Mars. The colours represent the different minerals exposed by the impact. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on 26th December 2012.
